Processing weed mapping data – What does the STA logger do?

Hopefully you’ve read our primary article, “So, why the STA logger?”. In it, we discuss the practical limitations of performing weed mapping while spraying weeds, how there is significant inconsistency between operators results, and that GIS data management is time consuming (and that’s if your team even has the skills to do it).

The STA logger is automatic. From the field, to the server, to the desktop. You don’t need to do anything. And it is this point that we want to highlight today.

What is your time worth?

This video shows the elapsed workflow of what it takes to process a weed mapping GPS file to produce outputs similar to a STA logger in a GIS application. And we mean similar as the end result here isn’t appropriately symbolised and doesn’t have the plethora of metrics that are standard with a STA logger.

This is one file. From one day of work. From a single device. And we are GIS experts. How much time would be sunk into working on this for a large project?

Now consider that a STA logger subscription is $1 per day (AUD). And all you have to do is plug it in to charge and our processing takes care of the rest. Not only that, it is hosted making it accessible anywhere you can get an internet connection, it comes with a custom built web application, software licensing to use it all and support. For $1 per day.

This is to speak nothing of the efficiency gain you achieve in the field while working by not double handling another device.

Sure you have to buy the STA logger first. But you also have to buy any consumer GPS too. But with the STA logger, the first years subscription is also included in the price. Go on, look at our prices and consider that the hardware price also includes 365 days of subscription.

All you have to do is plug it in to charge.
