Weed mapping data and government databases

In Australia, each State government has a platform for collating spatial information on the presence of flora and fauna. These include:

  • Australian Capital Territory (ACT) – ACT Wildlife Atlas and Canberra Nature Map.
  • New South Wales (NSW) – BioNet.
  • Northern Territory (NT) – NR Maps and Flora and Fauna of the NT.
  • Queensland (QLD) – WildNet.
  • South Australia (SA) – NatureMaps and Biological Databases of South Australia (BDBSA).
  • Tasmania (TAS) – Natural Values Atlas (NVA).
  • Victoria (VIC) – Victorian Biodiversity Atlas (VBA).
  • Western Australia (WA) – FloraBase and NatureMap.
  • National Database – Atlas of Living Australia.

These databases are relied upon by a range of specialists including consultants, researchers, government agencies, land managers, NGO’s, planners and more. A common use is querying records of rare or threatened species, but of equal importance to land management are the locations of invasive species, which often get overlooked.

Using STA logger data, you can easily format your weed presence data for submission into these databases.

We recently worked with a customer in Tasmania to format their data for submission into the Natural Values Atlas (NVA).

The user simply adds the geoprocessing tool to their project, fills out the parameters (such as highlighting the STA logger data as the input data, and where they’d like it saved) and clicks run. Their weed data is ready for upload to the NVA.

This data will now be publicly available on the NVA to assist managing these weeds at a State and National level.

Contact us if you’d like to know more about formatting STA logger data for submission into public databases.
