STA logger and STA explorer features overview

The STA logger was first introduced to the world in 2020 to automate weed control data collection work flows. It improved efficiency for field workers, simplified data handling, removed subjectivity from mapping and made everyone’s lives easier.
Following that, the device was co-adapted for a broader range of applications including fitting to boom sprayers, tree planting tools and for solo mapping purposes.
Now the STA explorer is on the scene and provides a suite of new features and improved workflows. Below we discuss the use cases and features of each device.

STA logger
Affordable solution for backpack spraying, high-volume spraying, booms, or when size is less of a concern.
The STA logger has no buttons or fittings to keep operation simple. However, we have an assortment of attachments that you can fit to the device to increase functionality. For the device to work, you need to connect an appropriate attachment for the port at the bottom (paying close attention to ensure the white marks on the attachment and the port are lined up). The device will wake up and begin mapping when the attachment is triggered.

STA explorer
Smaller, lighter and more powerful. A versatile solution for all applications including tree planting.
The STA explorer has a mapping button, and 3-way switch integrated into the body to assist in mapping and categorising data. It also includes hardware that detects the movement from tree planting activities. For the device to work, you need one of the following 1. Connect an appropriate attachment (as described for the STA logger above), 2. Use the button on the side for mapping, or 3. Move the device in a manner that mimics digging a hole for a tree (a downward drop before a sudden stop).

STA explorer high-accuracy
When position accuracy matters. Capable of centimetre level accuracy with post-processing. Perfect for forestry applications.
The STA explorer high-accuracy works the same way as the STA explorer described above. However it also includes a GPS and antenna capable of recording position data with high accuracy.
Pictured below are the main physical features of each unit type (the STA explorer and high-accuracy variant are physically the same, except for the antenna on top, so only one is pictured).

STA devices require a subscription to work. You can find more information about the subscription here.
