Into the Weeds

We’ve recently contributed to the November 2022 feature article for Esri’s ArcWatch publication, titled “Into the Weeds” which discusses the use of the STA logger in weed management.

The ArcWatch feature article for November 2022 – Into the Weeds.

The article follows Canadian reforestation organisation Wild+Pine as they set out to restore a 12 hectare site for the Nature Conservency of Canada by planting trees and utilising the STA logger during their weed management work. It includes a discussion on the field work and project benefits of utilising the logger and its GPS technology for managing weeds. As well as a dive into the backend use of GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro to analyse the data more deeply. This provides a deeper understanding of how weeds are dispersed across the site and provides greater reporting metrics to help manage their weeds moving forward.

In such a situation, the time and location of every drop of herbicide used in a project can be recorded both temporally and spatially, demonstrating a great leap forward in responsible land stewardship.

We thank Wild+Pine for their input into the article and the editor of ArcWatch for their helpful review.
